The signals of Hands’ Palm

Human hand’s  palm ” signals ” are the most hidden enormous energy and influence of the ” body language ” someone may gain when uses  palm” signals ” in time. The biggest mistake in ” body language ” is trying to explain some of the ” gestures ” separately, so take every “ gesture “ alone.

And here we will recognize the basic positions of the  palm ” gestures ” which are kinds of ” body language ” needed to deal effectively with others. These three main ” gestures ” positions show user personality’s kind. When you supposed the same facial expressions, items or entries and voice accent to be used, by changing palm’s situation you will recognize the variety of these personalities.

There are three main positions for the  palm ” signals ” :

1-Palm upward position:

this position indicates that the user is a peaceful person Demonstrating:

  • openness and cooperation

The user of this signal will not depend on pressure or order upon requesting others to do him/ her something. So, those whom had been asked will not feel that they are threatened and they will obey and cooperate.  Thus, this position preferred to be used  in hand shakings as it shows openness and cooperation.

  • Request not order

This signal of ” palm ” is used, mostly, by beggars; either spiritual beggars who pray for God for forgiveness or obtaining something, or materials beggars who beg others to give them money or something else.

  • Listening more than talking

When this up-ward ” palm ” signal is used by a person, it shows that he/ she prefers to be a listener rather than a talker. Shortly, it means that as if this signal user tells the others that ” I am at your beck and call “.

2-Palm downward position:

This the position indicates hostile and controlling power:

  • Hostile :person reciprocates with instant authority and feels that he/ she has been given a sense of hostile against him/ her by the user of this signal. This depends on the relationship between the cited person and the owner of authority.

For example ,If you give your son or employee an order by you, he/ she will perform the it but in a resentful way. But if the two are of the same grade level, he/ she simply will refuse the order because the ” palm ” is down and he/ she was to accept if the ” palm ” is up !

  • Domination and Power:

This position is used by the authority owner towards his/ her subalterns. So, this reference will serve as an order, but not request. As in Hitler’s salute which expresses domination and power ,so his/ her salute is known as the most historical one as it conveys double signal of ” palm ” downward and becomes famous in Energetic of the ” body language “.

Thus, this position is not preferred to be used in hand shakings as you will feel the other person is aggressively trying to be absolute. In addition to being authoritarian and arrogance, this signal is a clear message to the others trying to subject them. So, certainly it suggests order not demand.

3- palm closed-erect forward index finger position:

It’s one of the most provocative ” gestures ” to others when you talk to them. In addition to being authoritarian and arrogance ,it is a clear message to the other trying to subject them. Certainly, it shows not demand, but order .This position denotes :

  • Docile: The speaker is trying to force the listener to be quiet and easily controlled. It draws the attention to the person you are pointing to, making him/ her feel uncomfortable and drawing all the attention. for example, when person points at others while he/ she is lecturing them, either as attacking reference to make others admit who is the suspected or determining reference.
  • Acquiescence: the speaker is absolute, so that the cited person is trying to make the reluctant acceptance without protest at being given an order. for example, when an employee performs his bossy-imperious director’s order.
  • Abidance: the speaker is absolutely certain of his followers to be obedient and submissive. As when a  religious or political leader refers with his forefinger others rushed to him/ her without knowing the real motives and reasons.
  • Groveling: the user being asked to remorse for past conduct . It’s like the repentant index finger.

Thus, if you are accustomed to use the ” body language ” especially method of aggressive finger , try to use the pointed-finger with ” palm ” up and not closed. this method will create a more positive attitude and bring calm and relaxation for yourself and others!

However, many of   palm” signals ” have been changing over the last years (as a single ” palm ” is held in the air when somebody is giving evidence in a court of law, and putting palm over heart when taking an oath ). Also new ” gestures ” are added like the referee’s ” gestures ” .For example, the ” palm ” open and facing forward, a pushing motion towards the front of the body once or twice to indicate the puck was moved ahead with the hand.

Furthermore, most of the main movements of ” body language “, including  palm” signals “, are uniform in all the world, Also there are differences in dealing with the sub-movements of ” body language “, including  palm” signals ” , in the countries of the world according to the different cultures.

Shaking Hands Series- Part Three

The Submissive Handshake

Hands are, as parts of the ” body language “, often used in greetings. The most common form of greeting is ” hand shaking “. Handshake, is a kind of communication among humankind as it conveys many various massages to others because it is mostly the foremost outline of dealing others have with you.

There are many different forms of the ” handshaking “. One of those forms is the submissive” handshake “. The  submissive “ handshake ” happens when you proffer your hand with palm-upward, figuratively the other person will be giving the position of palm-upward hand which shows dominance and authority, and that is the contrary of submission.

Some indications of  submissive “ handshake “:

Like all parts of the ” body language ” , submissive ” handshake ” reflects  human beings’ inner characteristics and  indications that denote to:

  1. Meekness: when person intends to show a kind of humility, he/ she intentionally handshake with palm upward to give the other person the rule of ascendant, as to tells him/ her that “I am at your service “.
  2. Impressive: This reference could be in affect when a person intends to show regret or an apology state. In this case he/ she uses the position of submissive “ handshake ” to let the other to be the dominant  and to sense remorse of submissive” handshake” user, as if telling the former “ I am sorry for what I have done”.
  3. Coquet movement (often by women): women that use this  submissive” handshake ” ,which is a kind of ” body language ” indications, as an appearance of femininity in business meetings they would not be considers seriously both by other women or by men. This does not mean that women in the workplace need to act in a masculine way, but simply avoiding signals ” body language ” indicated femininity if she wants credibility equal with men. So, if woman want to be considered as a man parallel , especially in business, they have to avoid this position of ” hand shaking ” at all cost.

But we must beware of interpreting all palms upward in a position of ” submissive handshake ” as indications made to be signals of submission. Before we condemn negatively, we must take into consideration their state of affairs as:

  • Disease of arthritis : a person with arthritis hand will undergo to give his hand limply of pain ,but not submissively.
  • Professional circumstances: a surgeon and the artist are acting on the same lines of person with arthritis, but to protect their tools.

To differ between the dominating person and submissive one must consider the movements that happen after ” shaking hand “. The more submissive person takes a weak position the more the dominant shows aggressive intentions in all parts of the ” body language ”  movements.

How to Create Equality

Do you want to be held or restrained by the other person? shake his/ her hand with palm upward , then you notice how fast and effective result. If you do not pay more attention to your parts of the ” body language ” movements  including ” hand shaking ” .

To show equality use vertical palms in ” shaking hands ” as that your palm to be firm without being crushing with the other’s, and for a very exact period so you know when to go.

Clam Power Player

Either aggressive or submissive signal of the hand palm is a kind of an energy and influence of the ” body language ” may be gained when a person knows how to use palm positions in due time and according to his/ her personality. In                   ” shaking hands “, the user of the fixed arm with palm downward position attempts to show others all kinds of authority he/ she has, either body force or the power of ” body language ” . He is always the beginner in ” shaking hands “, making the other person in the submissive position.

Hitler’s Nazi salute is a symbolic of this aggressive and offensive signal of the parts of the ” body language ” movements because it lets the others look for equality, but in vain and rarely to performance it. When someone feels he/ she has been given a sense of hostile against him/ her by the user of palm upward signal intentionally, he/ she will use one of the following different ways to adjust this position to be in parallel, which are:

  1. Invading the dominant’s space (how, when, and where):

Being given a palm downward by a professional power user, although it is difficult to change his/ her palm position, you should not offer him/ her your palm upward in  ” shaking hands ” when you want to be equal, but be the beginner by making a step to occupy dominance person’s space as following:

  • On the contrary of the most people, who forward on the right foot when shaking with the right hand in natural position, you should be the beginner in making a step forward with your left foot as that the distance between you and power user enabling you to shake his/ her hand.
  • The next step must be with your right leg in an a crossing movement as to be in front of him/ her and to occupy the place that he/ she defines to himself/ herself in his/ her imagine.
  • Then, move your left leg across the right one and shake his/ her hand with overwhelming his/ her arm wrestle with your other hand in the same time.

whatever the area in which ” shaking hands ” taking place is small , this way helps you to turn dominant’s palm to be equal with yours and even you may make your palm is the upper in all meanings of the word. However, this tactic needs more practicing.

  1. Double – hander ways:

When a professional power user proffers his/ her palm downward, which is known as the outline of dominance in Energetic of the ” body language ” movements, don’t hesitate to do the followings in due time to straighten his/ her palm :

  • Offer him/ her your right hand with palm upward.
  • Putting your left hand over his/ her shaking one.
  • Make your hand as straight as the user of power’s.

In this way , you will draw the energy out of the power user to be your own. It is the simpler way to overcome the impressive ” shaking hands ” user . Women are advised to use this/ her way because of its easiness, simplicity, and it does not need a practice as the first way.

  1. The Last Resort:

If the user’s power of all part of ” body language ”  movements used to handshake with dominance palm downward intentionally, you would, compelled, do the last effort which will astonish the power player. To apply this type of ” shaking hands “, do the followings:

  • Offer your palm downward, but not flat, with firm arm
  • Fix the top hand of dominant’s hand; clasping his/ her wrestle with your right hand which you will shake his/ her hand with, as to tell him/ her it’s enough I understand your intention, then shake his/ her hand.

It is preferred to use this way as the last effort if the user’s power is always shakes hands with impressive indication.

So, by following these tactics, you will invert the common statement that says: “The more submissive person takes a weak position the more a dominant shows aggressive intentions “. To become as following: the more a dominant shows aggressive intentions in all parts of the ” body language ”  movements, the more a skill person uses insulting ways to perform equality.

Control Power

Communication gestures of the parts of the ” body language ” among human beings, comprising ” shaking hands ” with all palm positions, reflects and affects person’s thoughts. ” Handshaking ” , as a kind of communication movements  of ” body language ” , reveals what is going on mind and materialize by either ” hands ” palms upward or ” hands ” palm downward, or by any other ” hands ” palm positions.

What about shaking ” hands ” between two leaders in which the symbolic of Dominance and control in ” body language “?

Body Language | Shaking Hands | part One

Dominant interprets his/ her thoughts of superiority throughout his/her palm upward in shaking hands to show the others his/her authority and impression.

In this communication humility and leadership appear to be opposites. As when two leaders meet and greet each other, like Roman Leaders, the stronger leader tries to do all his best to make the other to be submissive, and his hand helping him would be the upper one when shaking ” hands “.

Shaking hands is mostly the foremost outline of dealing others have with you. You intentionally, as mentioned above, transmit the thoughts  you are thinking about throughout these three gestures of ” body language ” :

  1. Domination and Heedfulness : Dominance position is used by the authority owner towards his/ her subalterns to say to them ” you are under my control”. In conscientiousness way, it creates a kind of heedfulness at others’ mind , who know something about power games, to pay more attention and prevent the dominant not to sleeve them.
  2. Submission: Like all parts of the ” body language ” , submissive ” handshaking ” reflects human beings’ inner thoughts and indications that denote to meekness. When person intends to show a kind of humility and submission, he/ she intentionally shakes ” hands ” with palm upward to give the other person the rule of ascendant, as to tells him/ her that “I am at your service “.
  3. Equality: If you do not pay more attention to gestures of all parts of ” body language ” movements including ” shaking hands ” , you would be under the user’s Power who uses this movement for absolution others. In some ways, that means non equality. To show more respectability for the other and to make him/ her feels comfortable with you, use attitude of equality when shake his/ her hand.

Above mentioned ” body language ” gestures may be transmitted or received unintentionally, but affect our relations with each other.

Body Language | Shaking Hands | part One

In the 1970s, the styles of ” shaking hands ” had been documented in some business skills classes and taught as business strategies need training and application to be affected in communication. these strategies which, with a little practice, can dramatically influence any face-to-face meeting, as Dominance is transmitted by a hand palm downward in the “shaking hands “. Your palm doesn’t have to face directly down, but is the upper hand and communicates that you want to take control of the meeting. Another study had been applied on 350 persons of high administrative positions, 89% of them were men, show that:

  • Almost of directors are not only the beginners in ” shaking hands” , but also they are dominant.
  • Men used the Dominant position more than the women. As 88% of males, of those  350 persons, while the ratio of females  is 31% .
  • Authority and Dominance attitudes are less important to women rather men. May be this is the reason why one third ( one of each three )  meant women try to use the Upper Hand ritual .
  • Some women used a Coquet movement (a reference of submission) by giving soft handshake indication as an appearance of femininity in some social meetings. they would not be considers seriously both by other women or by men.

This does not mean that women in the workplace need to act in a masculine way, but simply avoiding signals ” body of language ” indicated femininity if she wants credibility equal with men. So, if woman want to be considered as a man parallel , especially in business, they have to avoid this position of ” handshaking ” at all cost.

A study, by  William Chaplin at the University of Alabama In 2001, had been carried out into ” handshaking ” found that extended ” hands ” palms used fixed ” hand shakings ” revealed not shy and  non-neurotic characteristic. Chaplin also found that women who offered their ” hands ”  for fixed ” handshaking ” are extroverts to new theories, but men used the same position whether they were open to new attitudes or not. So, women who want to establish a good business relationship are advised use firm  ” handshaking ” , especially, with men.
